Why

Why we named it “Chasin a Dream”???

Lance Armstrong came back from something awful to become a champion… and so did Ethan Gillim!

In August, 2003 when he was 6, after winning the AMA Grand National title in the mini bikes in July, Ethan was severely injured while playing on a competitor’s truck. His left hand was nearly cut off when he was trapped in the lift gate mechanism. He had been left handed. The hand was reattached etc.. and life was different. With many scars and alot of therapy Ethan, within 4 months, was back on an automatic 65.

Within 10 months, riding in alot of pain, Ethan won 2 Grand National titles and the 2004 AMA Dirt Tracker of the Year award. To understand the pain Ethan felt every time he rode think of how your foot feels when the blood flow has been cut off for a time and the tingling that happens when you get up and move… that is how Ethan’s hand always felt when riding etc.. any jolt would send shock waves of pain thru his arm. Even through the sensations and pain Ethan was determined to not only ride again but race and WIN.
The Ethan Gillim “ Chasin’ a Dream” Program, Inc. is a non profit charitable organization established in memory of #95 Ethan “Butch” Gillim to promote safe motorcycle riding and racing for young riders.

Purpose:
The Program will be instrumental in providing financial assistance for young riders to obtain necessary equipment, education and training to ride and race safely and to assist track promoters in related issues. As a non profit charitable organization we accept donations from large corporations, small businesses, motorcycle clubs and individuals interested in participating in something greater than ourselves… a young boy’s dream.. to see the continuation of safe and competitive riding and racing by up-and-coming young riders.

Ethan:
It was very common for Ethan to tell us what he wanted to do when he grew up – “I want to be a pro road racer like the boys (cousins- the Hayden brothers).” But two days before his death he made an unusual statement that later led us to see that we could do something to honor him and keep his dedication, drive, determination, and vision alive.

May 3, 2007:
“Mamaw, you know what I want to do when I grow up? I want to be a pro racer, like Nicky, and have a team of young kids and help them have fun like we do.”

May 5, 2007:
Ethan died doing what he clearly loved doing, racing and “battling” for the lead. We know he was most likely saying in his head, “Hang on baby Jesus, we’re going to the front”! But God said, “Come home son… we’re starting a race team in Heaven and we need you.”

What can you do to help?
Help get the word out about Ethan’s “Chasin a Dream” Program in your area!!!!
